Supporting a Growing and
Prosperous Saskatchewan

We Believe in
Saskatchewan’s
Potential

We support the province’s 2020-2030 Growth Plan and anticipate more investment, job growth, and higher exports for a healthy economy and strong communities.

Did You know...

Investment in Saskatchewan’s mining, oil & gas, manufacturing, and construction sectors totalled $6.9 billion in 2019?

THE PROBLEM:

Saskatchewan Losing Its Competitive Edge

Our tax competitiveness and transparency advantage, especially at the municipal level, is beginning to erode.

We need to take action now to ensure investment, jobs, and opportunity don’t flee to neighbouring jurisdictions.

1 hour of employment in mining and oil & gas sectors contributes

$447 to GDP

5X the average business!

THE SOLUTION:

Fair and transparent municipal taxes

We’re advocating for two main changes to the province’s property tax systems:

#1

Competitive, fair,
predictable taxes

Limit the range of the effective mill rate (EMR) ratio on all property classes from 0.75 to 2.0 in order to produce a more equitable distribution of the property tax burden among the various classes.

This change ensures our natural resource, manufacturing and construction sectors won’t unfairly incur the burden of property tax increases.

#2

More transparency
and accountability

Improve municipalities’ financial transparency by bringing into force Section 185.1 under The Municipalities Act and expeditiously creating regulations that require reporting of key financial data.

This change will ensure financial data is easily accessible by requiring all municipalities to post their public accounts online.

Did You know...

Saskatchewan’s resource sectors, manufacturing, and construction represent 39% of the province’s economy? The resource sector alone makes up 27%!

Take action before it’s too late!

Too many businesses and our young people are moving away because of unfair taxes and a lack of transparency in municipalities for Saskatchewan’s key industries.

Email Premier Scott Moe and Saskatchewan Cabinet Ministers saying now is the time for change:
